McDonald’s UK is bringing its best known dips to the dressing table this Halloween, turning six sauces into a Spooky Sauces face paint palette, with shades including Garlic MayOoOo for fans looking to make the sauces part of their costume.

Created by Leo UK, the agency behind the brand’s summer sauce campaign, the launch borrows from the world of luxury beauty, with a moody reveal film across TikTok and Instagram. Fans can enter a competition to win one of 100 palettes, while UK creators will share their own Halloween looks using the kit throughout the rest of October.

Each Spooky Sauces palette holds six shades named after the McDonald's sauces that inspired them, with Sweet N' Spooky, Tomb-Mato Ketchup, Curry Cauldron, Boo-Boo-Q, Sweet Chills and Garlic MayOoOo all given a Halloween rename. The accessories follow the same logic, so the kit also includes a mirror, makeup brushes shaped like McDonald's fries and a sponge inspired by a Chicken McNugget, which means the nugget finally gets to be the thing doing the dipping.

The campaign launched on Friday 16 October with a video across TikTok and Instagram that walks viewers through the kit as though it were a prestige product reveal. It was shot against a velvet backdrop with spotlighting, close-up product shots, a spooky gloved hand and ASMR-style sound effects, borrowing the language of beauty unboxing content and applying it to a palette named after barbecue sauce.

On Saturday 17 October, McDonald's opened an Instagram competition giving fans the chance to win one of 100 Spooky Sauces face paint sets. To enter, fans were asked to tag a friend and tell them which McDonald's item they should transform into for Halloween, a mechanic that turns every entry into a small piece of costume planning.

Until 31 October, McDonald's is also working with UK creators who will use the palettes to create original Halloween looks inspired by its menu, restaurants and packaging, with tutorials for followers who want to try them at home. The brand says it will repost and engage with looks created by fans on its own channels throughout the campaign.

Ben Hooper, creative director at Leo UK, explained the starting point. "Whether it's dipping fries or nuggs, we've all ended up with ketchup or sweet curry on our face. Usually by accident," he said, adding that the agency is turning the sauces into spooky face paints so fans can swap "their usual post-nugget mess for something properly frightening".

Ana Saffer, marketing manager for digital and comms at McDonald's UK and Ireland, said, "We all know and love our dips, but we've never seen them quite like this…" and added that the brand is "looking forward to seeing our fans serve some iconic Maccies looks."
